150 Gallon Set up

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Discuss and angels would be a great look for the tank since they use all levels of the tank, you could also do a group of some type of cories for the bottom level since the raphaels pretty much hide the entire day

Yeah, I've really been toying with that idea, so now i'm looking into more information on them. Not so much the angels (unless I see one that i really like), but I love the look of a clean discus tank.
Are they interactive fish, or more skittish?
By the way cmj, is that a Red Head Sev in your avatar? Awesome looking fish!

Woke up this morning and found my tank leaking. Lost about 20 gallons al over the living room floor. Drained it out and had to rush to set up the old 55 I was storing in the garage. Guess it could have been worse. It could have happened while I was away for the holidays. Still disappointed though...

Well I have been thinking a lot about the tank while I have been away visiting family for Christmas. I saw that Mr. Catfish had a pretty comprehensive guid to sealing a tank, so I'm sure that will come in handy.
I'm definitely going back to a planted tank. I picked up some new driftwood (hardwood) that I will probably be attaching to some slate. I want to do a moss wall. I will probably jump on the planted sub forum with some questions, but I will continue to update this thread along the way as I set up the tank again.

Well the holidays are over, and i starting working on the tank yesterday. I got the rest of the gravel out, and still can't figure out where the leak was coming from. I even put water back in the tank since it's in my garage again, and I couldn't find the leak. I started cutting out the silicone, but didn't get very far, also needed some new razor blades.

You might not be able to see in the first picture (inside the tank stand), but there was a lot of water coming from somewhere...

The fish are still doing well in their temporary 55 gallon home. I'll be sure to keep you all posted as I work on getting this tank set back up. It's going to be a planted mixed community with the entire back wall being a Christmas Moss wall. I've decided on everything except the focal cichlid. Thinking it might be a group of Male Firemouths, maybe 3.

Thanks for your support and continuing to check in on this thread.

I've got about 2/3 of the silicone cut out. I never thought it would be so tough to get all out it cut out, but 31 inches deep is a real pain in the rear. It has definitely been re-sealed before. I also found a really big bubble in the bottom.

The Tank is now back in the house!
I have been testing it in the garage for the past couple of weeks to see how the new silicone would hold up and I finally drained it out and moved it back inside today (technically yesterday). I ran by the LFS earlier to talk to them about ordering some cichlids, and I ended up buying more than I was planning, so when I got home I got to work and moved everything back in the house, got it set up and planted. I've tied some moss to the driftwood to create the impression of a tree (i decided against the moss wall because of the large amount it would require to start the wall), planted some swords and a tiger lotus. Definately need to pick up some more plants. I've moved the BA Tetras back inside from the 55 gallon QT tank, the rest of the livestock will follow shortly.
I ended up ordering some Rainbow Cichlids for the tank, so hopefully they will be in by next Friday so I can pick them up. I'll try to post some pictures later today.

As promised, here is the full tank shot. Can't wait to get the Rainbow Cichlids in there to really add that pop of color. I am thinking Emerald Cory Cats as well.
Thanks for checking out the progress on my tank.
