a fish will not starve itself, its instinct. Throw some damn worms from walmart in the water and then try shrimp and such, have you tried hand feeding? ive been very lucky weaning my fish off live food.

My old oscar was raised on live food by the shop I bought him at, and to ween him off, I had to make a little stick to hold the food on, and I raced it around the aquarium until he ate it. Slowly I just got slower, and slower, and moved less and less, until I was able to just toss the food in and he'd eat it.
I wonder if it ever crossed his little mind that maybe in ature, Cichlid Pellets don't swim.

look at dieselmacks tutorial on gettin them off live food. workd with my fish. and 17 for 5 feeder? thats ridiculous. even if its the bigger ones. only a dollar for one big one here. or 20 small ones for a buck.
i handfed mine for about 2 weeks with minnows..they realized my hand meant food..so i started offering market shrimp, they have been eating that ever since..i still offer some minnows..gotta have fish in their diet 
Just starve him for a week or so but in that week just drop in a piece of shrimp daily or pellets and eventually he will learn to eat off live...
