1700 Gallon Stingray River

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Every time I see new pictures of your wonderful set up I see a new piece that intrigues me and inspires me. This is not a stunning tank it is a magical living work of art.

I am very impressed with your set up. I was looking for Bromeliads and you have many. I had wished you included carnivorous plants, then I spotted the Nepenthes!!!! I LOVE your tank!!! Just keep a head count on your reptiles, the Nepenthes pitchers will eat them, if the frogs, etc... can't get out of the trap. The traps are designed for no escape, very few victims can get out. On a brighter side, the nepenthes will keep insect populations down too. I have 32 Nepenthes plants, and I have variety that even smells like lemons. It has small dots on the leaves(lemon smell) to attract prey to the plant. The traps do the rest of the work. :clap:clap:clap:clap:cheers::cheers::mwave::grinno::grinno::lol2::lol2:Enjoy!!!!!

Thanks for the compliments- there have also been studies done and found that some frogs and lizards actually live inside the pitchers and make niche homes. I have both Pitchers and Sundews although I have been told in the past not to. Instead I have found the animals don't even recognize the plants capture ability in the slightest. The Poison dart frogs can hop onto and easily off from the sundews and the pitchers are still to small to pose a threat.

@ the question about the poison dart frogs going for a swim. The frogs produce the poison as a byproduct of eating an insect (The name evades my memory at the moment) So unless he is feeding the frogs that insect it's unlikely that the frogs are even poisonous at all.

BUT I'm no expert.

I'm sure Energy will be able to answer your question better.

Correct-The frogs get their poison from their prey in the wild- hence these are safe.

Wow, simply stunning

Only problem i see, is that the couch/sofa is facing the wrong way !
I agree but the wife likes it as is.

the only problem there is that the aro would make quick work of his land animals, as they are part of there natural diet. the fish he has dont come out of the water and grab things off of limbs like the aro would.

It would eat the frogs and lizards in no time.

YAY ME! I got it right! I was at Animal Kingdom in Disney World when I learned that like 7 years ago lol
