1700 Gallon Stingray River

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Am I the only one that cant find any lizards? Lets see some more pics.....Amazing set-up!

Have i mentioned my envy of that tank yet? I only have the money right now to run a 75 gallon, so jealous ! Keep the pics coming we all love the tank!

I'm relatively new to MFK and find new build threads everyday that inspire me and amaze me at the creativeness of some people. Every once in a while I find a new build thread that blows my mind and raises the bar. This one is going to be VERY hard to top Energy. Simply amazing! :WHOA:

Wow, I just realized you do a 14% water change every day. Is that necessary with a setup like that? I would (ignorantly :P ) assume that the plants would keep the water pretty clean!

I feed relatively large doses of food. Although the plants help I like knowing that their is new water coming in daily and therefore no buildup or excess of any one component.

I am in shock

that has to be one of the most amazing things ever.

just o my god

you should put tree frogs in it that would be nice as well but really that is just too amazing
:nilly:Thanks! I thought about tree frogs but they could have a conflict with the poison dart frogs.

Wow. If I were one of those discus, I'd think I died and went to fish heaven!
5 discus total and although they have plenty of space I personally would like them to have more depth. Hence I keep the total number of fish down.

That's a real cool way to keep stingrays.
Awesome tank.

The tank is really set-up especially for stingrays- shallow but a large surface area to investigate.

Very very nice!

Thank you -;) thank you.

Nothing more can be said that has not been....Amazing. The response clearly shows how a natural setting truly blows away the unscaped barren monster tanks on this site. Do you have generators for the inevitable power outages? That system must use 200 amps!!!! Are a builder by trade????? So impressive!!!

I have a generator on hand but really have not had to use it. The system can be down for about a day without much problem. The filtration room has five dedicated circuits. My average monthly power usage cost for the tank now is about $75-$100 plus an additional $40 monthly for water changes. When it was a reef my power usage was about $400 per month- and about $60-$80 for water. I love the cost savings!:D

Not really a builder by trade, although I did build the house and everything in it. I actually consider the system more of an artistic expression.

HELP!

I am looking for some impressive systems. Be it a saltwater reef, fish only, freshwater aquariums, terrariums or vivariums.

Anything that is unique qualifies.

Why? Back when my system was a reef tank- Mike Palletta and I started to work on a book that was a compiltation of outstanding reef aquariums. Unfortunately we both got busy on other endevours and never finished the book.

Since switching my tank over I thought it would be neat to maybe work on something that encompassed all bio-topes and systems.

For instance - Amano focuses on freshwater aquarium but without enough details that would help others establish their own. I thought it would be cool to have something from everything and go into detail on how each system was done.

The book would focus on a specific tank, then talk about how it was constructed and is currently being run. Provide lots of pictures on that tank,eye-candy and cover- what worked-what didn't. It would be a guide how that one tank was set-up-so others could pick up tips and tricks for their own systems.

People could compare side by side in one book some awesome freshwater planted tanks with stunning reef aquariums as well as some cool terrariums, etc.- you get the idea.

One book that covers all the different, unique and awesome set-ups stuck inside a glass cage.

From you I need -

1. The tanks and contact info so I can get ahold of the owners or designers.

2.Your input-
A. what would make this better, what do you think of this idea.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

Stan
