For the most part only the breeding pairs, which is only one right now. Other than that they get along pretty good. If I had to pick one I'd say the firemouth and occasionally the GT. A pair of cutteri keep thinking about breeding and chase the other cutteri's but don't mess with anyone else unless they go into their cave.
Honestly, I'm shocked this is working. The plan was to make breeding difficult and fry suruvial next to impossible. So far it's been working but there are still a lot of juvi's to come of age. My biggest worry is if the cutteri pair getting it together and spawning, if the lone female pairs with one of the lone males and I get 2 pairs of cutteri spawning I'll have trouble. I had that happen with the con's and I had to get rid of a pair, it was just to hectic on the others. I didn't plan on having this many cutteri in the tank. They were tiny when they went in and I didn't think all 5 would survive.
What has surprised me the most is no one has tried to cross bred amongst the sexually mature fish, mainly the cutteri and con's. There are at least 2 single male cutteri and 2 female con's and they don't show any interest in each other...yet. I'd prefer if none of them bred as I don't want a battle zone, but with convicts what can you do. I also enjoy watching the fish protect and rear fry so I guess I want a little breeding going on but not everyone. This started as a 90g 4 months ago and the con's bred, 3 months ago all moved to a 125 and the con's laid within 24hrs, when they moved to the 180 about a month ago they laid within a couple of days. Those last fry are slowly disappearing and then they'll spawn again. It's amazing to me to see how fast the non-breeding female con's are growing when they don't have a mate to lay with.
