There are many that have kept a silver aro in a 180g 6x2x2' for many years. IMO once the aro reaches 26-27" it needs a bigger tank. Starting with a 6" aro, you would be looking a 3 years at the most.

recommended minimum for life would be 96x30x24"
Would a 6x4 tank be good for life?

No 6' is far too short for a fish that should be getting to ~3' if looked after. 8x3x2' minimum IMO for a silver, the 180g will do until its around 2' (probably 18 months to 2 years) then upgrade to the 8x3x2'.

And no they aren't worth more when they're large, unless they are an exceptional example (no DE and PLJ), they're probably worth less....

nope 6 is too short

big tanks for big growth rates and ideal conditions + factoring in the fish gets that size disease and "jump of death" free > definitely better to get a bigger rig... but to be completely honest, my first silver aro lived in a 55 gal for almost 3 years before it keeled over and all was good until the day it died - death was due to some bad feeders. fish was a little past half the tank in lenth and very thick.

so in answer to your question i think that 180 is gonna last a while. enjoy!

Well i was think 2 years but i wasn't sure so i put a few years plus thinking about how much they feed it and the water quality it depends
