Great thread. Just read through all the comments and I'm looking forward to the outcome of your tank. And as everyone's mentioned, that eel is really, really awesome. If you're up for, just some pics of him would be appreciated. Oh, and the feeding video with the octopus sounds killer! Take care and best of luck to you and your build.
 
May be too late for my two cents, but I would cut the heck out of the wood and reassemble in the tank, but the pressure of 180 gallons if you remove or cut the brace is a lot of weight...

i did end up cutting it, and now that i have it apart i dont know if i am going to re assemble it lol. instead of one awsome piece i now have 2. :headbang2

ill get some pics up today
