I have been reading several topics about what a suitable tank size for an arowana is, and I haven't really seen a straight answer. I may get a 180 gallon, so my question is, would a 180 gallon be enough for any species of arowana for it's life? Please let me know.

A 180 is suitable for a jardini, leicht, and asian. The 180 will last awhile for a silver but not for life.

no keeper really keeps them for life, a 180 will do u good for a few years. if u decide to keep it for life, then you will be the judge wether or not ur aro looks happy in that 180. we couldn't tell u otherwise.

aros live 20+ years.

think so? interesting...

I think another question should be, what are the dimensions of the 180g?

2x2x6?

i think so, you know why? some people move around, some people get bored. sometimes weird stuff happens. sometimes people can't afford the bigger tank to keep a full grown aro.

so yah, i think so.

tru fish keepers that are dedicated to keeping fish might keep one for life. 90% of fish keepers with aros will not keep them for life (20+ years) letting it die of old age.

True, I personally never seen on in a personal aquarium for longer then 8 years myself....and damn it was like 3 and a half feet long and thicker than a tree trunk. It was in california and was contained at my phillipino friends house in a 8x3x2 foot tank....now that I think of it.....that was in 1998....I remember how proud his dad was of his fish.....I didnt know anything at the time, just knew it was a huge fish. Of course that was when I was about 18. Making the fish out to be 17 years old if it was still kicking and breathing now.....geezm I wish I was still in contact will him now just to find out.

though ive recently believed otherwise, i think a 180g is decent for a silver since reallisticly (depending on your lfs) itll propably be the best home it can get as long as you take good care of it(course there are exceptions). but if getting a bigger tank is a possibility now or in the future definetly go with that.

I'm going to be using a 180 as a growout for three p-bass and one black arowana. Then Im moving them the black and p-bass to a 375.

Then the 180 will be used to growout some silvers that will be introduced into the 375 when I feel they are big enough.

A black arowana can live atleast three years in a 180, some people say for life. But I dont really know if I would keep it in a 180 for life.

if anyones wonder specifically how long/big an aro can last in a 180, jus ask delgado. he's still going along with the experiment and can give u tips first hand.
