180G for silver arowana?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Under good conditions I've found silvers to grow to 2' in the first year. They will get too jumpy in that size tank. I would pass or invest in something much larger.

damn, im surprised they need such a large tank. i feel like they are popular fish considering that few people have tanks bigger than 180G.....excluding MFKers of course.

If you can convince yourself that a 30" plus fish can do fine in a 6x2x2' tank then go for it. As I said before there are many who do it. Yet those hypocrites will jump all over someone keeping a betta in a bowl, or and oscar in a 55g, yet by ratio both of those fish are better off then the silver aro:screwy: or better yet :( very :(.

no, im with you bderick. i don't have an arowana i just really want one and was considering an upgrade to a 180. If the silver can't fit Im gonna start researching the black arowana....even though there almost the same size. thanks.

Why not consider a jardini arowana if you don't have the fish yet. An adult jardini could most likely be kept in a 180 for life.

lol silver in a 180 for life is a joke. Maybe a jar.

People with 180 gallons with big arowanas are not true arowana keepers. People like Bderick know what it takes to keep a healthy arowana, and have proved themselfs more than capable. Arowanas are not fit for everyone but people try to make it so by stuffing them in a small tank and saying its okay. Though they know nothing of the long term effects on their fish, cause they can just blame it on natural causes when they could have grown an extra foot or live 20 more years.

i was thinking about the Jar or african but i much prefer the looks of a silver or black. I would even take the Asian arowana but apparently they cost a fortune and are hard to find. anyone know anything about the black aro?
