As with alot of people on here, I recommend scrapping the aros and tsn idea. Also, no rays. I love my bichir--funny little fellas. Personally, I would like a 180 for a planted discus tank with corys and lemon tetras or serpae tetras. But if you wanted to go the bichir route, some dithers would be a good additive if you dont want anymore cichlids: SD's, barbs, etc.

I have never seen a motoro listed as a teacup, or a leopold, or any others. There are only two species commonly refered to as teacup and effectively all of them are P. reticulatus. Any LFS selling something more valuable than a teacup as a teacup obviously doesn't know what they have and are probably selling it cheaper than they could.

There are no official common names, that is the problem with using them. But there is only one species commonly referred to as a teacup stingray. I think anyone on this forum who reads that knows which type of ray is being discussed.

The real issue is that the name 'teacup stingray' implies that it is small, which it is far from as an adult. This is the only real reason to argue against calling them teacups.
Other than that it is a common name and valid to that extent.

thats what i thought 2

An oscar. 180 is okay for a fire eel too but I don't know how theyd get along with the bichirs..Mine was fine when they were small buutttt its a gamble and is also size dependent.

Are you looking for all oddballs?

yea oddball ancent stuff like that

This may be true where you live, but generally this is false. I have seen like 5 different species labelled as tea cups. Motoros included.

A 180 might be big enough for a smaller ray (P. hystrix/reticulata), however it's too small for an adult motoro or any other medium-large species. There have been some reports of large bichirs not playing nice with small rays. That being said, it's ultimately a gamble if you chose to mix them.

A good sized medium fish could be either a large cichlid like an oscar, a group of geophagus, a large flagtail prochilodus, you could also look at the a bit smaller pims, such as Pimelodus ornatus or Sorubim lima, or perhaps a large doradid such as (And I state this with reservation, as these might ultimately grow to 2' and would benefit from a larger tank) Megalodoras uranoscopus.

Saying you were inspired by a thread and not reading the said thread is ignorance, yes.

Hystrix can get 14 inches across. With the tail they get to large for a 2' wide tank.

My 180 is too small for my laticeps rays. Because their tails are so long.

Just get a young asian aro. best fish around. take advantage of being a canadian. My 180 holds one asian aro thats it.
