So my father might get me a 180g tank, so I wanted to plan ahead, I want to do a larger fish setup, i only have a 55g with a male green texas and a senegal bichir so both of them will be upgraded and go into the 180g, both are still pretty young approximately the green texas is only 3-4inches and the bichir is 2-3inches. what type of filtration should I run as well? Im thinking a HOB that i currently have on my 55g then a canister. The scape i will be doing is a under the river scape with river rocks, driftwood (Large pieces), fake plants and pool filter sand. Thanks in advance!

Welcome aboard:)
That is plenty for filtration for both fish.

Thank you!!

Okay cool would it be enough for some other tank mates like other larger fish? I was thinking some more bichirs, pictus cats, oscars or other larger cichlids. A more aggressive stock.

I suggest not adding a Oscar with a Texas and also when adding fish you must test parameters due to the growth of the fish and the bioload they will produce.

This also very important especially with Cichlids quoted from great experienced members some specie of Cichlids in the wild have very large territories so stocking the 180 gallon with too many large fish will be trouble.

Ah okay, so how many territorial space do texas take up? So in your opinion what would be some good tank mates? I always wanted to do an Oscar because they are my favorite fish. I just want the best for my fish.

While you wait do some research on the species you would like to add with the Texas and Bichir. Btw what specie of Bichir do you have?
