what would be a good community mix of either malawi's or mbuna for a 180 gallon tank? i am open to either one.

ok so if i did a mbuna community those are just the fish that they sell as "assorted african cichlids"? and id just get a bunch of those in one tank? or is there some way to add maybe a fish as a centerpiece to the tank? they are very colorful. but yet the malawi's are a very varying colored fish, but i like the contrasting colors of the mbuna. since itll be bright dark then bright again.

Mbuna is Malawi...

You can get the mix tanks ones, or pick out which type of mbuna you like and get those certain ones.

ok. yeah i really dont know much about how to type cichlids. but are mbuna what they describe at the lfs as "assorted"?

thats alot of different species. i wouldnt know where to start. can all these different types of mbuna be mixed together in a community setting?

ok, well heres a few that stood out for me.

Labidochromis caeruleus "Electric Yellow"
Melanochromis chipokae "Malawi Pike Cichlid"
Metriaclima estherae "Red Zebra"
Metriaclima greshakei (Albino) "Albino Ice Blue"
Pseudotropheus saulosi
Melanochromis cyaneorhabdos

(not sure on common names of last two)

I also like the zebra ones that arent quite black.

i like a variety of color

these could mix, but watch for cross breeding when picking fish get enough males to females... labs are the claimest in ur list

ok. so it would work but you wouldnt suggest the labs? im not sure if my lfs would have the specific species, but could they help me pick out some that would mix well with these too?
