195gallon Freshwater setup

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Now you've seen the pics, a quick update on the progress.

An error was made on the stand which resulted in the tank being smaller than the stand. The LFS owner gave the stand builder the dimensions for the stand instead of the dimensions for the tank.

Originally when we discussed the hole placement on the tank the returns were on the top two outer corners of the tank and the drains were closer to the bottom center of the tank. However you see in the pics where they wound up. The LFS owner has said since there was a mistake on the stand he now has the opportunity to correct the issue with the holes and stand by ordering another tank that will fit the stand, thus being able to put the holes where we had originally planned. (For Free) The only thing this will cost me is more time.

My question to you all is should I just take the tank as it is or wait the additional week or so for a new larger tank? I don't mind the extra real estate for free, however I have a deadline of Jan 15th to pick up my Tig or I loose him. BTW there is about 1 1/2" gap between the tank wall and the stand. My only worries are that the tank wont be ready in time for the Tig.

Worse case scenario I put the Tig in my 100g until this tank is ready...

What do you think?

p.s.- If I get the new tank, this one becomes available again for a GREAT price...the original stand has been sold already so whoever buys this tank will need to build or purchase a stand for it...I'm just saying :naughty:

I too like the look of tall canopies. I am still trying to convince my wife to let me build one for my tank BUT it woudl require moving a shelf with wedding pictures on it and she is not too keen on that one...

I don't know how much space you have, but I would suggest building two bookcases on either side of your tank so she has more space to store her pictures and you can go as tall as you like with the canopy, and give your tank a sort of "built in" appearance. I would love it if my husband did that for me...:naughty:.

I woudl go larger tank if given the option. The tig can survive short time in the 100 gal....

As for the book cases....I could I guess but then I woudl lose the side viewing of my tank and I would have to relocate my surround speakers which causes some issues.

I think the wife could deal with haveing the whole wall in the main stairwell to put a few shelves and such...

I was thinking shallow bookcases, but then what would you do with those speakers...how bout a wireless upgrade and put them in the walls (I know a bit out there, but i'm a dreamer) :D

I think as long as you offer her a solution that makes her feel special she will love it. Make it all about her...make sure you put up her shelves before you build the canopy ;)

Wireless speakers are not an upgrade over my setup....lol...And my speaker system was my wedding gift to myself so they are not going anywhere...lol

I will figure something out to get the pics moved. Though right now I am pushing for a ray tank in the basement/man cave a bit more.

Lol...understood. Priorities right? :grinno:

You guessed it, the new BG arrived today and once again UPS destroyed it. There are deep fractures in the BG that would not withstand the installation process (drilling) or even prevent water from seeping through them:irked::irked:

When I get home tonight I am going to take pictures and post them so you all don't think I'm crazy or overreacting. UPS SUCKS!!! :(

Here are the pics of the first destroyed BG..

In the last picture the fracture runs the full length of that "bulging" rock about 9inches long. And its located exactly where I need to drill for my returns.

ughhh!!! :irked::irked::irked:

So here are the pics from the 2nd BG. After calming down and looking over the entire BG again, I'm thinking about repairing the break and moving forward. There are two more minor fractures that are capable of becoming major, but....i dunno.

I think as a consumer my anger with UPS about receiving 2 damaged pieces let my pride and ego (yes women have them too) get the best of me. I know right is right and I should receive the merchandise I paid for in good condition. But since I will be drilling holes in this and using silicon to install it, I can do the extra 5mins of work and silicon this piece back together.

What do you all think? Should I press this issue and go through this process again. I know DBN is just as frustrated as I am they're the one's who filed the claim with UPS the first time...and even though it's not DBN's fault nor is it mine, I still can't help feeling really bad about this whole thing.
:(:(
