2.5G Shrimp Breeding?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Aquarium Fish Depot sells Blue Neon Gobies. They are very rare. Freshwater. Grow 1.4 inches tops. Thoughts on them?
Pretty sure they need lots of algae, high flow, and cooler water, similar to hillstream loaches.

They are often kept in full fresh. Should be okay for a while in hard, alkaline water. But yeah, best in brackish.

White cheeked Goby’s seem like a better option. They reach 2”, and can be kept in full freshwater. They need rocks and driftwood, which Would probably be the scape. A few in a 10g. I could probably put one in a 2.5g.

I really don't mean to burst your bubble but 2.5 is really, really tiny. It's basically a medium fish bowl. If you have decor and the tank isn't tip top full you will easily sit <2 gallons of water. It's really small. Fish like hillstream gobies are specialized for fast, clean water streams. Your water quality will decline 4 times faster than in a 10 gallon. I gave my 4 gallon tanks to my brother to use for terrariums as it was far too small for me to provide stable, clean conditions for a fish. My shrimp are doing well in the 15g scape with barely any maintenance due to the space, water volume stability, and food made available in a larger space. Temperature stability is also far better in larger tanks.

As someone who has went through the stages of wanting to put fish in any glass container, I implore you to go a bit bigger. It's not that expensive to set up a slightly larger tank and you will have far better results. If you REALLY want to use the tiny one look into annual killifish, they are often housed in tiny tanks that are cleaned frequently

I agree with everything. Thanks. Is it possible to put a singular shrimp in there? Just use it for an aqua scale?
