lol... i guarantee you it is not the oscar. contrairy to popular belief of new fish keepers, T.O's are just hungry but cannot harm fish that don't fit in its mouth. believe me they frequently try, but it doesn't even damage the other fish.

now that i think about it, This looks like the cause this time... the diagnosis is Swim Bladder Disorder, and the culprit is me. im adding this to my list of mistakes.

http://www.fishlore.com/acclimating-tropicalfish.htm

This is exactly what happened on Thursday when i acquired the fish.
5:30pm - bought the fish from Ko'olau pets - windward mall

6:50pm - got home with fish in bag
i layed the bag on my bed and sometime at 7:00pm i passed out and woke up at 2:30am!!!

2:30am - CK was still swimming casually in bag, being tired i totally forgot to acclimate the fish properly and just floated the bag for about 20 minutes without doing the proper bag change and tank water input.

2:50am - like a dumb ****, i emptied the bag out, releasing the knife fish directly into the tank probably sending it into parameter shock and further causing swim bladder disorder a couple days later...

does my story sound plausible??

i HOPE i can get help with this story!! unless the fact is simply, i ****ed up and now this beautiful fish has to pay... aside from wasting my gf's money...

Is it just me or did i not see you mention anything about this happening in your first post??

You killed it.

obviously i only mentioned what was going on with the fish at the time of concern like most other people... the sense fell in later on, and with that i have to conclude that my fish is dead and a lesson learned.

i also wasn't too strong in my education of acclimation since i had no prior fatalities as a result of this, let alone fatalities at all. ive had many fish throughout my lifetime and never fell asleep while initiating them before... thats my main error i believe.

sorry for your loss... and yes this sounds like a reason for sure... sometimes we do have to learn the hard way... and even though you get away with things and it creates no issues..following procedure with out quess work pays off... you lost a mighty fine baby.. :( And at least you realize your mistake... and taught many others not to take chances..

it wasn't the nonacclimation that killed him. it was keeping him in the bag way too long. oxygen deprivation. if he is still alive, put him in a tank with an airstone by himself for a few days and feed him some frozen bloodworms. he may pull through.

yes could have been this too ..although he mixed me up when he said he was fine the first couple of days in the tank and then he became lathargic.... ....so many things it really is hard to say exactly...but i still think it was injury of some kind..

oh no friend, it died when i posted that he was dead. it wasn't oxygen related since he was placed into the tank alive, if it had been oxygen related he would have been dead in the bag. its physically impossible for a fish to die of suffocation if it receives D.O. before it actually dies like every living thing.
