2 clown knifes together?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
interesting...I always thought clown knives couldnt stay in the same tank for long cause, it disrupts their electronic field or something, just like in bgk's...

Here is the 2 I had together. They were 12" and 16" and hung out all the time.

Nice pic...I might have to get a second

I have a royal clown knife and a clown knife together and they get along just fine. They even hang out in the same corner of the tank. I think tank size has something to do with it though. Too small and you may have a problem and they will nip each other. I have never seen them bother each other though...

I will try and get a better shot some time. But this is a realistic shot of how they are most of the time.

I think it depends on the individual fish. I have two clowns who have been together for about 18 months. They have been fine, just an occasional bite. The large of the two (19") is a huge wimp so he did not do well with my other two knives (a royal and a gold clown). They bit him terribly and harrassed him without mercy. SO I moved him temperarily with a smaller gold clown knife. But they got along so good, that I kept them together. They get along great, swimming and lying together on the bottom.
In my other tank I have a royal (23") and a gold knife (20"). They also get along most of the time. Occasionally my royal will be in a pissy mood and will bite the gold knife for no reason. But nothing too alarming. I used to have my other wimpy clown in with them. The three of them were good for a couple of years and suddenly my clown was always being bit. He is a little retarded I think so he would do annoying things to the others and then they would bite him.
So keeping multiple knives together can definately be done but keep an eye on them especially when they are figuring out their territory.

I've had a couple in the same tank since size 4 inches, they're now 23 inches and doing fine. One dominates the other, so that one is a couple inches smaller in size but they're both still going strong.

I have never had clown knifes or knifes alone. The only circumstance that it ended up going wrong was with bgk.

I have 2 chitalas and a big bgk together in one tank. and 2 chitalas and 2 lopis in another tank..

i think that bgk's and ck are in different genus's/families and that might makea difference. one way of noticing that they anre closely related is the fact that ck's (and ABK's) live in africa, while bgk's (and i think glass knives) live in S/A.

All three of mine have been together for almost 6-8 months with no problems, occasionally during feeding times the royal and golden butt heads but other than that they all hang out together
