(2) Eheim 2217 vs. FX5

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have a FX5 on my 150 No complaints..... yet

Go with the Eheims, I have the FX5 and really not that impressed with it. Though its flow is high which i think its best quality is, but not worth the money, just my two cents.

Two Ehiems one for strictly bio, and one for polishing and mechanical filtration.

Thanks for all your comments!
It looks like the eheim is the winner! I'm supposed to be picking up 2 tomorrow.
They will be replacing my 2 Fluval 403's, so hopefully the eheims can at least match the filtration. The 403's are keeping the water readings at 0 (nitrates < 10) so if the eheim's can keep it below 10 I'll be happy.

no "normal" filter is going to decrease your nitrate readings, only water changes will do that.

Good point, I forgot about that.
Well the ammonia and the nitrites are hovering around 0, so the fluvals are doing the job, but they're old. Two new filters (even though they're the classic version) will allow me to sleep a little better at night.

with 2 x eheim classics you need 4 x double taps so thats another $120

Update: I went with the 2 Eheims 2217's!!
Great decision! They are literally the quiestest canisters I've ever heard!
They came with all the media and quick disconnects!
Thank you all for your advice!
