2 Fish dead in 1 week, PLEASE Help

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I do regular water changes of 25% and these water levels have been the same for 13 months without any ill effects on the fish. The fish are not fed live food, krill and frozen shrimp only. Typo on the PH .2, not 2 meaning my ph is nearly non existant.

Are you yanking our chain your ph cannot be .2 that would have burnt their skin off by now plus yours. What is the ph i suggest a retest even just tell me the kit you use and the colour it goes as i can guess from there. Go retest it!

I do 3 week filter changes on the tank and don't change both at the same time, I have two EMP 400. Can't think of anything that could have led to contamination right off, but it is possible. No introduction of new plants, gravel, fish, or anything I haven't been doing for 1 year. I clean all food particles out as soon as they are done eating, they are fed once per day with alternating krill and frozen shrimp which is peeled. From what I am reading this seems to be bacterial of some sort. Is that the wrong direction? If it were water it would be affecting all fish all the time I would think.

i understand that it could be bacterial but your ph reading worries me. What is the ph of the water out of your faucet?

I'm reading this post as meaning .2 above neutral or 7.2.

i hope he means 7.2

dude, stomach acid has a pH of 2. Your fish are definitely not swimming in .2 pH and still alive. Get a good kit, and retest the water. BTW, any ammonia or nitrate that isn't 0.000000 isn't good. That white film is most probably due to bad water quality

based upon the information you have provided, i would say that you had insufficient bio-filtration on your tank and over time, the problem worsened to a point where your fish could no longer handle it. two emperor 400s is not enough filtration for a 125 with 6 adult natts.

if you still have fish in the tank, i would suggest going out and buying a new filter to run with your emperors, preferably a good quality canister, and try to find some established media for it. if you can't find established media, throw the new filter on while still running your emperors and perform small frequent water changes as necessary to keep your ammonia and nitrite levels in check. i would also suggest adding some salt to your water to help counteract the effects of nitrite poisoning.

for now, i would stop dosing any meds, just bump the temp and add salt, keep the tank lights off, get another filter, keep an eye on your water params, and leave your fish alone. if they have been exposed to ammonia and nitrite for an extended period of time, they are going to need to have as little stress as possible placed upon them in order for them to make any type of recovery.
