2 For the price of one Marbles

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Not that lightly stocked.. 7 rays, 3 sevs, 1 gar, 1 flagtail, 1 pleco in 300 gal ray tank..

Like I said, "IF" it was me. I say this cause I tested my water parapeters all day long after loosing the first ray in my recent dealings with sick rays.... The parameters were fine. Ray died and another one started showing similar symptoms. I had 2 choices, either re-assure myself my water was fine, OR assume the test kit is irrelevent and my water was crap. Well 2 days after making the decision of "my water is crap" the ray that refused food for 5 days is packing on weight. Was it the Binox or the waterchanges I can't say for sure..... But the Binox was added at the 1st sign of the 1st ray getting sick. 2 days in she died. 2 more days go by and the 2nd ray begins refusing food. This is when I began with WCs.... AT least once a day and readministering the Binox.

Maybe it's nothing. Maybe it's just a little irritated, maybe it IS something. Hard to say without seeing it in person, but as a person that has lost Marbles I know I would be taking some kind of action.

Just my opinion.... IF your ray was allready established your water would be "fine" but since it's obviously went through a rediculous amount of stress lately, and is not only new to captivity, but new to you and that tank as well nothing shy of PERFECT water is going to be "fine".

Please understand I am just trying to help.

I'm assuming you allready have her seperated from the other rays and have allready tried live ghost shrimp?

nove the new rays to a new set up.... rubbermaid container be perfect... congrats on the pup really hope it doesnt hold the same fate as the other...

Thanks for all the info DB, haven't done any meds yet, but if things don't make a turn i'll start. I've been doing the water changes already, and yes she's seperated and trying didderent kinds of foods.. She's been in QT at a friends house for 2 weeks now and was eating earthworms there but hasn't touched anything at my place..:irked:

TB85.. I have 2 12" Marbles, 10" Hen x Motoro, 6" Hystrix x Motoro, 2 6-8" reg x superspot motoro, and the little 3" pup

Nic.. i'll have to see what i can do for another setup.. The wife made me get rid of all my other tanks to get the 300 ray tank..:irked: Might have to try and find a rubbermaid..

So far the pup is doing good and cruising around the tank.. It's mostly just mom that i'm worried about.

I've had nothing but terrible experience with moving them, but with that bio load it might be the better choice.

I just know I had NO time with the ray I lost.... From 1st symptom to death was like 2 days.... Just don't want you to be seeing what could be considered nothing and really be overlooked symptoms, otherwise you may wake to a dead and hindsight will be relentless.

And I am by no means condoning medicating at this point..... Especially if the signs aren't what we would consider symptoms yet.

Good luck! May the force be with you.....

just go to walmart and get a large tote or 2..... fill it with your tank water(you might need to wrapt the top in duct tape or wedge it or build a small frame to keep from bowing out) after its full to your desired height net rays and put them in there... add filter and heater and walk away...
