Yeah I think it's a blue as well. It's crazy how I look at what this fish looks like now, then adult pictures on the internet :O they change a lot...

I think the JD has a more a problem with the texas than the texas does with the JD.
So far my JD just flares his gills... Hopefully it doesn't get too heated over the next couple days :O
It's funny because the JD is about 1/2 the size yet he's all in the fight. He just looks so tiny lol.

Is it normal for convicts to be stressed longer than regular fish when introduced into a new tank?

yeah, as far as being blue or green texas, may just be the photos'? deff not a red though.

to me it is also sort of weird that the JD is being so aggressive. the JD's i have had in the past have always been more passive.

it is also weird that the convict is being shy... the one convict i had, at one point i had no place to house him and decided i would just risk it and toss him in with my african community, immediately when i threw this 1" fish in with my 3-6" african community, the convict flares up and does not back down to ANYTHING.... he stayed fully colored and ate within 5 minutes of being in that tank... he is truely a beast

Hmm... I've had different experiences with JDs.
I've had 2 in the past which killed an oscar and almost killed another oscar. Maybe as the JDs get older they get more docile.
If my convict can handle it maybe he could live in the 75 for a while before he gets a mate. I don't know what I'd do with all the fry though...

You could use the fry as feeders! Thats what I am going to do when mine will finally pair up and spawn.

Right now my convicts are still very tiny, female about an inch (or just slightly bigger) and the male about 1.5inches. I hear that they have tons of personality and can stand up for themselves in a fight.

Jealous of your Tex! I have been trying to find one here for AGES! Willing to clear out my 120 just for them...

Oscars arn't very aggressive, dempseys are aggressive compared to them.

I repeat you will not find a tankmate for ur Texas u said u couldn't house a jag and I'm sure u meant size but u also probly know how Agro a jag is well a tex and jag aren't much different in agression jag just bigger and bigger teeth listen or not but u will see when it hits probly bout 4 or 5ins

I meant I don't have enough room for jag all by itself...
I'm pretty sure my JD and texas can get along because a JD can probably defend itself...
Not trying to be mean but it's hard to take a post seriously when punctuation isn't even used...

They had a bunch of texas and a bunch of other cichlids in a tank and weren't labeled... Somebody must have brought a bunch of fish in.
My convict is definitely a little bully ATM. Not enough to harm the other fish though.

my texas beat down jacks all the time 1 a bit bigger then him and the other a bit smaller and my tex is 3 inches

Mine is about 2 1/2" I want to say.. He chases the JD around a little bit and the JD is only about 1 1/2". I can't really tell though..
There's no fin nipping but there's chasing so right now I'm not too worried...
