but isn't that what tap-water conditioner is for? my cousin changes 75% of his water 2 times a week and never has problems with the cycle having to repeat.
Wow. That much is never suggested. That will kill the bioload in your tank.

like i have been trying to tell him, he doesn't know as much as he thinks he does. he thinks if he does it then it must be right and if i don't, then i am doing EVERYTHING wrong! god he is so annoying! luckily i joined websites like these so that i don't do all the retarded stuff he does.

We are always here to help you.

are you moving the gravel over too? The water does not matter, what I would do is fill the tank. Then condition let sit a day or two, after all chlorine is gone. I would move the gravel over and the filters then add fish otherwise the bacteria will die with out fish to produce waste for it...

Starting up a new tank with water and a run in filter drastically shortens the time for putting in fish. If your new filter has run on the old tank for 2-3 weeks you should have a pretty good bacteria culture growing there. What I would do is also take half the water from the 29gal to get the new tank started. It would help greatly if you could transfer some of the gravel over into the new tank.
This is the way I start up all my new tanks and I never experience ammonia or nitrite problems. This does not mean you should not monitor your tank closely for the first 3-4 weeks. Problems can occur quite rapidily at any time.
Water conditioner will greatly reduce the chlorine in the tap water. Take some of your rocks across into the new tank.:naughty::ROFL::headbang2:nilly:

well the problem is that i am not planning on using the same color of gravel in the 75 gallon aquarium. what i am going to do most likely is let the 75 gal filter run in my 29 gal for 2 weeks, then put it, and 50% of my 29 gal's water into the tank, fill the rest up with tap water and add enough tap water conditioner for a 100 gal aquarium. then i will moniter for 1-2 weeks before adding fish. is this an ok plan?

if there is no bio load on the tank, the bacteria will die and then there will be nothing for the fish when you add... this will lengthen the cycling time. It will be liking starting a new tank, if you seed the tank add fish. not a lot of fish, but some...

seed the tank? well i was going to add some feeder fish to the tank to see how they handle it. and then by how they act and the water parameters, start adding other fish.
