If the OP ran them in series, why not just have the last fx-6 pump the water, and let the water flow in through the first? This would abide by the principlesof a closed cannister setup, no?
Also, you should run 3 levels of matrix and sponges, it's the best way by far. If you want a little polishing pad on the top level, go for it, but it slows your flow down
