speaking as a mom with grown kids and a grandma..
it much easier to teach the kids the right way to do things and show and help them do it right than it is to keep them out of stuff.
and even at 2 years old, do not underestimate their ability to learn and try to do the right thing. if you give a child a specific job that "helps" you, they will do that "job" and they won't do your "job".
When my grandsons come to visit, the first time they came here Michael was 3 and his younger brother was 1. he (Michael) wanted to feed the fish. i sat him down and explained that the fish eat special food and he can't feed them, but he could be a BIG help to me if he would use the spray bottle (vinegar and water) and the tea-towels and wipe off the front of the tanks for me after the fish eat because they are messy (peacock bass).
and that's what he did.. he followed me around, watched the fish eat, and then he sprayed the tanks and wiped them off after the fish ate. was a blast to watch, it was kinda cute and clumsy, but he did a great job of cleaning the tanks. and even better, when we were done, he was TIRED, and he went to bed and went to SLEEP.
