I am literally awestruck...can you tell me what you use to do the carving? Do you cheat and dremel-cut out a rough shape or hand carve it all?

I use a 1-horse Foredom gem arbor with diamond dental bits to do the rough shaping. The scales/skin features are hand carved with japanese fine ivory chisels. Then, back to the Foredom arbor for final smoothing and polishing. Polishing is 6 stages starting with Linde-A and ending with 15,000 grit cerium oxide (pulverized sapphire).
