Are any of the South American cichlids suitable for a 20 gallon long?Ive seen some people keep black convicts in a 20 gallon but they seem to get too big for it.Im realy not into the rams that much im looking for something more hardy and forgiving since this is my first aquarium in 10+ years.I tetsted my tap water and the GH is around 25,KH close to 0 and PH around 6.5

What about rainbows? Are those another dwarf cichlid. Super colorful fish though! Otherwise, the options named would work too. I commend you for asking. A lot of people will put oscars in 10 gallons and then get stuck unable to rehouse it to something bigger. Way to do your research!

Yea I want to do it right.Plus I want an aquarium that looks natural and isn't overcrowded.I recently picked up a 125 gallon for a future project.I will go for bigger cichlids then.

I would stock the 125 gal with the actual adults, and then you can use the 20 for any beat up/sick fish or fry.
