I would stock the 125 gal with the actual adults, and then you can use the 20 for any beat up/sick fish or fry.

I would love to but I have to wait untill me and my girlfriend find a house.I'm limited with space at the moment.I'm setting up the 20 gallon to get my feet wet(no pun inteneded) since its been 10 years since I have owned an aquarium.

firemouths get way too big for a 20 long. Ive seen them @ 7-8" total length.

They take years to reach half that size lol... by then he could afford a... 40 gal breeder, which would house em for life.

Nah, I had a 5" one in less than 18 months from 2" and a 40 gal breeder would be ...bare minimum for 1 full grown FM.

50% weekly water changes and a good pellet will grow them easily. They arent slow growers by any means.

Doesn't matter I don't want firemouths. The honduran red points are in the lead so far.can any other fish that would be compatible fit in with a pair?

They are one of the slowest growing cichlids. 2 to 5" in 18 months is about an inch every 6 months, compared to a dovii or oscar that grow as much as 1" a month.

I think a pair of firemouths can easily be keeped in a 40 gal breeder for life but ok

Well dovii and oscar were the absolute fastest growing cichlids Ive ever had (more than an inch a month the first 8+ months), so I dont think they should be used as a "standard" growth rate fish. Id say grammodes were among the slowest and firemouths, IMO, are about average. Not fast and not slow. Again, this is from my personal experience.

As far as the tank size for fish, its completely subjective. I believe in NOT over crowding or doing a bare minimum for the fishs size. Ive kept spawning pairs of adult dovii, festae, & istlanum in a 265g by themselves each time. I could have had more in that much space but chose not to (or couldnt due to aggression) except for a short time with the istlanum...but thats how I like to keep them. UNcrowded with more than enough space.

No. Youd be pushing it keeping a pair of adult HRP in a 20g Long. Possibly a few tetras or mollies or otto cats, a small growing pleco or something along those lines, but thats about it. I personally wouldnt try any more cichlids in that small of a tank.

Jeff Rapps has some platinum honduran red points I got 2 from him (I also have 4 regular HRPs) and they are really cool little fish very interesting.

Not sure on here if he's on MFK, but he's well known in the hobby for having some amazing fish both in terms of coloration and overall quality.
