^^ Wasn't gonna go there myself...

but I was thinking the same thing.

I bet it was filtration failure and ammonia toxicity and/or lack of oxygen.. tough to say.. Could be an infection, but that fast?

The article said that the system was working normaly and I would think a zoo would no enough to have enough oxygen in the water.

This would not cause black blotches thou would it???

i was thinking maybe a parasite that they dont know about yet? maybe one thats very rare and symptoms are unknown. sort of like fungus on fish except black bloches... its just so sad that such nice rays died. if foul play is involved ill be pissed

Parasites would kill the fish off slowly and not a large group all at once. They would start dropping off one at a time. Remember, the way a parasite works is to get as much from the host as it can before killing it off. It's not beneficial to a parasitic organism to kill it's host quickly. Therefore, they surely would have seen signs of a parasite.

According to the articals, Miles, they started testing the water parameters as soon as they noticed the rays acting erratically. It wasn't an ammonia spike. Everything points to a toxin being released into the pool, even if it was inadvertently.
