2000 gallon indoor Build

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
*sniffles*

I asked about underwater led lights and got no answer. My tender feelings are wounded.

sorry FinWin there won’t be any lighting. There will be an underwater camera streaming to a tv in the office though.

i added some white PVC panels which should help insulate and reinforce the bottom plus the white makes a great contrast for the fish.Water looks a lot worse so i’m going to up the mechanical and overall filtration. Here are some pics. The rocks are there to help keep them down and in place.

Good deal! A lot of black can get really darken a space and get 'black hole' like. I've always thought green would be a cool color for liners but don't know if that's available.

Now we can see the fishies.

So need some advice!

working on the filtration and i have a 3 barrel design popular in koi ponds. First barrel is a settling chamber, then fluidized k3 and k3 in the 3rd. At 2000 gallons what kind of turn over do i need? 8k or 10k?

IMO dont worry about chasing #’s for turnover. I ran 1 mag 24 (2400gph) on a 1700g pool and the same on a 1700 pond like urs. U do auto water change also if im not mistaken so thats a big plus. Others will have diff. Opinions, but personally ive never ran more than 2-4x turnover rates. Bio works better at slower rates. Higher rates are better for mech tho. I think ull b surprised how much more stable a larger body of water stays compared to a 300-500g tank. I run a 500g with around 3k gph. Theres 4 drains. 1 goes to my bio, 3 go to mech. Just my way of doing things tho. I think ull b more than fine around 4-5x turnover across the board.

Turnover through biofilter depends on bioload. I think turnover should be sufficient to render the ammonia test (and nitrite test) at zero ppm at any and all times.

The other side of the coin is the dissolved oxygen, which can be increased outside of the biofiltration turnover by simply increasing the stirring in the pond.

Update:

renovating the shop so i had to break down and move all the tanks. But got the space to add the 3 barrel filter (setting chamber, fluidized k3, static k3). I have 3 2” pipes in each one which i thought would give me 9900 gph capacity but with the jebao 4300 gph pump its maxed out. Not sure how i got this so wrong. Also now that it’s all together I can’t really add more so i figure this doing 2x a pond filter doing 2x mechanical sucking through a surface skimmer and a 150 gallon bog filter doing1x turn over should be good i figure.

might add a 2k pump for better circulation as the 1500 gph wavemakers in the corners don’t seem to be much help.

i did accidentally order an 8k pump that i could run 10-15 min every few hours to kick up debris etc.

also after running for almost a month with seeded media its still sitting at 1-2ppm. Inhabitants are good, active and eating well.

the bog will go on the end with the barrels and will have apvc lattice hanging from the ceiling. That way the plants growing up it will block the morning sun from shining directly on the pond. Shown in red crudely drawn lol

the only thing i would of done different is use black pond flexible piping and run it over and behind the pond to the barrels. your work is surprisingly nice to look at. but those 2 huge pvc pipes running to the top barrel stand out like a soar thumb.

Lookin good! Def. Not going to blow out IMO… can always throw in some vertical 2x4 on the outside easy enough also. Wouldn’t look bad either lined up with the top braces. Highly, highly doubt 3.5” of wood wall is goin anywhere soon lol…
