nice set up and fish...

Yeah, they look male to me also. XP Females always, in my experience, have a lot of blue on the lower half of the fill plate. The only difference between those two is that one shows the darker shade of subordination, the smaller one.

No no ... that's a pair. I have bred JD's for some time. I know how to sex them and I know what I've got. They also display courtship behaviour and the female has chosen a spot to clean and lay on. The only problem is that the male is not yet interested. He's quite big (soon he's gonna max out) and he is in for the big chicks. Before her ... I had a slightly smaller female but he decided he can't form a pair with her because of her small size ... so bamm ... she killed her. And she was so eager to mate .... she became all black .... and tried to lure the male to her chosen flat stone .... Hope this one is going to stay alive. They're together for some time .. That's the problem with my JD... the male is the meanest fish in the tank ... only the Jag can fend for himself and Chitala can sometimes cope with his attacks ... Fortunately they'll outgrow him for good .... and things'll get more balanced.
I'll show you some pics of them ... I know the female has a more prounounced bump in the forehead which is a masculin caracteristique but she's definitely a female.

:confused::confused: Your Jd's are male...Please share your sexing methods...

I haven't had any time at all for new pics but I'm gonna post some new very soon. It's more densely planted and some fish have added some inch fractions. Maybe now you'll tell me what sex is my Jag. In the 100 gals I'm planning to put some Carpinte, Salvinii and maybe a pair for my Jag. I want to allow it to grow huge (if it's a female ... they tend to reproduce at young ages and the growth stops sooner ... and I want a nice pair of Jags ... and second of all ... I must find a new aquarium only for them in order to protect my other fish .. so until then .. ).

PS. I managed to use an external filter. I originally had an Eheim 2028 ... but it was quite tall ... almost as tall as the water level ... but my girlfriend has given me the canister from her 2026 which is much smaller .. and now there's enough difference between the water level in the aquarium and the height of the filter. Hope the pump isn't too stressed out. Gonna add an Eheim 2073 soon ... found it to be almost as tall as my adapted 2028.

Some new pics I've made almost a month ago. Many things have changed since last year. Some of them have grown up, some have been moved... Eheim 2026 and 2028 filtration used (temporarily I hope). One more GT, a Paratilapia Polleni (cause I like it and resembles Central/South American Cichlids in size and behaviour), a Blue Acara and some little Carpinte are the new inhabitants since 2 weeks. The L191 hasn't grown much since last year I'm afraid. While the Chitala is around 13" the Jag is almost 12". The biggest GT is about 7-8". The Polleni is around 5.5" but gettin' bigger by the day. Feeding them Hikari every day and things started to look better - they seem to grow quicker with less waste than TetraDiscus. The Tigrinums are around 8'' and growing fast.

Soon I'm gonna post some pics with the Polleni and hopefully with my new Black Belt (Vieja Maculicauda).

Well... the pics with the Polleni and the Vieja... I got rid of the Blue Acara.. sold it. The Green Terror has been moved to the 100gals.
