200g ply wood build

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i bet! i cant wait for it to be finished. On my next payday I am going to do some work on my tank hopefully so I can atleast get everyone some updates. I don't have much to show except parts of the stand build.

ok...this is getting long now!

ive been trying to get an automotive style finish to the exterior of the tank. i used to be able to do this. WITH PROFESSIONAL EQUIPMENT. i dont have professional equipment at home. throw in the fact that its been raining most of the last week and the fact that filler, resin and spray paint aren't to fond of rain and high humidity... ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

but! sun is shining, weather is alright! i am waiting for the last coat of paint to dry and then i can bring it inside! the glass should be here tomorrow!

the sillicone i ordered still isnt here though!!!!

definately pictures tomorrow!

AAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

i painted it bloody yesterday morning! it was hot all bloody DAY.

checked the paint 34 hours after i bloody painted it and the paint had not cured!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

HOW??????

update....
spent 2 hours removing a layer of sticky paint with a skin like custard....:irked::irked:

oh, and the glass did not turn up. neither did the sillicone....so...

right confession time. i build custom glass aquaria to order. if this had of been glass it would have been completed in 1 day. the frame and canopy the next!
how am i still building this tank 3 weeks after ( ok its mine and ive been chillin a bit but...come on!!!) i started????

im gonna offer these after this. i reckon i can get the build time down to the same s glass. as i said b4 i didnt have a plan for this....

tomorrow!
1 x last coat of resin (thanks nige ( my neighbour who builds movie sets got me some more....FOC))
2 coats of primer and 1 maybe 2 coats of paint. (weather is meant to be scorching tomorrow so drying should work!

MMM so polyesther resin although safe is not water proof! this does not make me happy.

will be getting some epoxy on monday............ :(

have just applied 1 coat of primer and will be adding the next very soon. heres some piccies!

picture 1: the stand in place in the lounge! ive gone for a black n white tank to match our room. i used ebony wood stain. i like the fact u can see the grain. (not bad for some off cut ply!
picture 2: again only this 1 with the sump access panel removed
picture 3: the tank out in the garden. paint drying
picture 4: with the canopy sitting where it should be. the middle panel lifts to allow access! oh look! u can see the paint on the floor that i had to scrape of :/

something a bit different...
there is a new build at my LFS (nothing to do with me (unfortunately) cant wait to see it explode!) it is 15MM glass. it is 12ft x 8 ft x 4ft it does not use the euro brace style and instead has a metal bar and clamp system. (im not convinced) this tank is sitting on a 1" square steel tubes with no under padding (styro of plywood) oh and its ever so slightly on the pi$$. like i say... icant wait to see it explode! ive already told them that it will but i was brushed off. "huh customers eh? what do they know about tank construction"? if only they knew.... if only they knew!!

plywood build or all-glass? The stand sounds sturdy, but the tank is iffy IMO. I'm sure the metal bracing will hold up, but not as good as a complete interior or exterior bracing setup. I'm sure if(when) it does blow you will be right there to rub it in their face lol maybe they will give you some accounts and have you build for them!
