I'm still trying to figure out why and the purpose of this contest? Seems like the RTC’s extraordinary growth rate is never in question?

RTC's are a great fish wish someone would breed a miniature version.. Because almost everybody that buys one never has the facilities to take care of a mature RTC and most die in small cramped qtrs or dumped in a neighbor’s pond?

its just for fun, and I wish a neighbor would dump their catfish in my pond

I know NP , I always wanted to keep an RTC myself...I talked with the owner of an LFS near my home . He's always finding pacu's , rtc's left in 5 gallon buckets in front of his door in the morning. Imagine a 1'-2' plus fish in a 5 gallon bucket? :screwy: Not everybody is as responsible as the members on MFK.

Anyway gl luck with your contest :headbang2and I'm following this thread with great interest...

Nice Diskboy! You've convinced me to keep catfish.... I have a 3.5'' tiger shovelnose and a 3.5'' lima shovelnose. If we do a tsn growing contest, I will enter.

I'm sorry to post this, the saddest thing I ever see at an LFS is a red tail cat for sale. These beasts are magnificent fish that the standard hobbyist could only dream of homing for life, it saddens me that this is happening.

Our giant gourmai is rapidly growing out it current large tank and we have no room we are looking at planning permission for an extension then we can get a bigger thank for him(plus extra place for ourselves, in the process), (always planned when we bought the fish).

This makes me sad :-(

subscribed. look forward to this one. ive been holding one for a friend, which he now no longer wants back, and cannot believe the growth rate.

i put in 6-8 bits of mussel meat for him and my wyckii and he will eat the lot before the wyckii gets a look in. (rtc approx 12" wyckii approx 22") so ithough id better chuck some more in so the wyckii gets some, but nope..... big red isnt full yet and back for the rest.

pics are in my album.

i wont enter as hopefully big red is off to a friend of mines tropical pond. hes a beautiful fish but i cannot afford a 4 foot wide tank any time soon.
