Yes, get a few peppermint shrimp... they do work
As for lighting I've read to keep it off while the tank is cycling. That being said since you have coralline i would run it for a little while. 4-5 hours is prob fine. Just check your water paramaters every 2-3 days and watch for any spikes

API works for most things, but when push comes to shove your nitrates and phosphates better be zero because theres no way to tell between 0 and the next lowest level.
Watch out for your peppermints, as soon as they are done with the tasia they will move right on to the next coral they can get their hands onto. Put them into your sump if you have one for a constant stream of food.
