22.5 ton aquarium Bursts

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
What actually caused the tank to crack, and break apart is simple physics folks - Cold air outside + warm water in the tank = Glass bursting just like a car windshield cracks with the fluctuation of winter temperatures in a city like Denver, Colorado.
Could have been....were the opposing temperature differences that extreme?...Good point Egon.

The "glass" was if I'm thinking right was only 6" thick acrylic, whereas here in the United States we go with around 24" thick glass on major aquariums such as the Georgia Aquarium. As for the temperatures, it was -2*F outside, and the water inside the tank was around 72*F-76*F.

I re read the article and it seems that at least one panel of the tank was exposed to that outside temperature.
