Very nice setup. What sand is that?

HarleyK,

First of all, very great looking tank indeed. If you don't mind me asking:

1. how long it too to set it up. By that i mean, from the day you added water to the day you put in the fish.
2. Did you have to wait for plant to take hold or something? if so how long?

I ask because i really want to make a planted tank ...so far no success. one for test planting was completely ripped up by non-monster fish (much to my dismay). Also, drfit wood made the water funny colored - did you do something special?

ctoychik, welcome to MFK!

It took me some evenings to get the landscaping and sand in place and the temperature regulated. But once everything looked good, I hooked up a cycled filter from another tank and introduced the NGT that very same day.

NGTs don't dig, but he uprooted several plants by rough swimming. I had and still have to weigh some plants down with rocks. I had an L-066 pleco in there for a week, but he shredded all that was green. Indeed, you have to choose your fish wisely (or like me by trial and error) if you want a nicely planted tank. On the other hand, you can get plants like Anubias or Java fern and tie them to rocks and driftwood with fishing line. That will never come undone.

Thanks for info, HarleyK

I won't attempting planted tank until next tank (i suppose), cos from what i hear it is not good to put plants while the fish is established (is that a myth?)

Three of my tanks (with predators) are all bare bottom, the non-monster 50g is with limestone bottom (my first undergravel filter), but the plants were all destroyed within a week (i don't even know the cultprit ^^).
