225 GALLON FRESHWATER IN WALL SETUP BEGINS.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Worked on the wall this weekend. Finished all the osb and metal lathe and almost finished the scratch coat but I ran out of mixed mortar. It was 2 late to mix any more. I will post updated pics after work monday.

100_1058.JPG only spot left to mortar is the upper right.
Installed the door to the filter room. next week i will start the rock.

overflow installed, bio filter up and running. the only problem i see is the overflow is rated for 1,200 gph and the 2 600gph pumps will not keep up with the overflow. the only options i have is to place ball valves in the overflow to cut it back or buy another pump. other than that all is going well. i will get ready to rock the wall soon.

You won't have to throttle down the overflow, the overflow should be rated for more than the pump. The overflow will only drain the water down to the level that you have it set to, so even if you had a 2000gph overflow it wouldn't swamp your sump because the pumps are pumping water back in fast enough to overwhelm the overflow.

Well I decided to switch out the pump in my diy bio filter over the weekend.
I had the 2 600gph pumps with 3/4 tubing and I switched to a 1800gph pond pump
With a 2 1/2 inch output. It seems to make a huge difference. I also added a large
Piece of driftwood to the tank. Well its still floating at the moment. I hope it will sink soon.
I will post updated pics soon. I will also work on the rock for the wall this week. Should be done by the weekend.

Went toHome Depot last night and picked up slate pieces for the fish wall. I started around the tank to see what it would look like.
So far so good. I will post some pics tonight of yesterdays work and possibly tonights as well. Keep in mind i have never laid rock in my life so this is trial and error. I think it looks pretty good so far.

Also need a little help here.
What is the best media other than bio to put in my 2 FX5 filters? They just dont seem to do the trick. I tried carbon/pre filter media and the biomax in both at first. then i put that blue mat that you get from home depot in the air filter section. i just cut circles out of it and stacked it in the trays. Anyone have a better idea to get the crystal clear water with them. my diy bio filter is working alot better with the 1800gph pump. not bad for $69.00
