225 Gallon Setup

Although you may be "OK", if it was my house, I would (and have) put additional support for peace of mind. When it comes to this stuff overkill isn't really a bad thing, IMO, so you done right by at least considering. What you have going for you is that the location is running across the 5 beams. I would still sister the boards and/or have additonal posts or jack support. Depending on your type of stand, that could add a couple hundred lbs too.

My tank/stand (~ 3500 lbs) it is sitting parallel to the support beams, but also exactly above a 20+ foot long 4x8 beam running perpendicular held by 4x4 posts (I have a crawl space, no basement). So I ended up putting two more 8 foot, 4 x 8 beams running parallel to the existing beam (all held up with 4x4 posts as well).

BTW, will having the tank by the window be a concern for you? I think it will look nice in your office though.

I used beams and floor jacks in my old house.

Better to be safe than sorry was my thinking.

That's the route I would go...it looks almost exactly the right fit for the OP too...

Thanks guys. I just talked to my cousin (contractor that i worked for) and he said he would support it with 4x6 beams and jacks. The windows are a bit of a concern but i mill have the back and sides painted black so hopefully that will help shade the lights a lot. Which brings up another thing, with the back and sides being black will this attract heat to the tank?

I think in theory it would, but I was be just as concerned with heat if you had the blinds open getting direct sunlight too. It may bring on additional algae issues too. As far as appearance, it may be good to have the end of tank facing out left clear so that you can see from the end?

The blinds will always be closed. I will be painting the back and right side. The left will be open for viewing also
