I like the hose length on the intake at the bottom of the filter but I prefer the hose length longer on the output side between the pump and the quick disconnect valve.

Two reasons why I choose to use about 20" to 24" from the pump to the disconnect fitting are:
1.) Less strain on the pump output fitting and less chance of kinking the hose from the weight of the Q.D. and
2.) when priming the filter after a filter cleaning, I place the Q.D. output into a 5 gallon pail until all the air is exhausted AND it also allows me to drain the water from the spray bar back to the other half of the Q.D. fitting.

I also don't have to crawl on the floor under the stand to disconnect the output Q.D. when servicing the filter because the Q.D. is located about the bottom 1/3 of the aquarium.

The intake Q.D. is under the stand so I only make the hose from the filter to that Q.D. about 10" long.

Everyone will set up the hose lengths and Q.D.'s differently depending on their particular application.

I have never had the lid o-ring just slip in, usually it takes a bit to get it seated correctly. Are you sure you inserted it into the deeper groove of the lid?

lip the O ring in and just tighten the lid with those thumb screw but with 10 pound twist force.. the o-ring will sit correctly in the lid once you slide the lid on.. pressure from the lid will sit the o ring in place.. don't worry.. just don't over tighten the thumb screw that holds the lid.. just put little bit of force and once turned and primed check if it leaks if so tighten the screws little bit to stop the leak.. reason you don't want to over tighten is because over time the o ring will loose it's fluffiness and might leak (correctly done will last VERY VERY long time).. like Deeda have mentioned i like to have my input and output hose separated about at less 1 foot apart from filter and pump..Excellent choice on filter.. will last you a life if used and maintained correctly..in the future my 2 cent advise if pump plate to elbow leaks put some Teflon tape around the area.. dont know why the newer pump plate have this problem.. 2 of my 2262 have this problem.. not sure others have this problem even got a brand new one from EHEIM directly for free it has this problem..

Guys thanks i woll definitly lengthen the hose between the disconnect and filter makes sense.

I also will loosen the thumb screws on the lid i dont think i over tightened them but they are tight (not to the point where they dont move though)
Probably gonna have to open it up sooner than i wanted as i didnt use the 10ppi pad. I did a thin layer of mech-20 ppi pad - a ton of bio -then the 30 ppi pad

I think moving the motor back on the plate a but did the trick. I also wrapped the thread of elbow that connects to the motor with Teflon. The gray nuts is tight should i lossen it ?

Also the pump mounting screws to the plate are tight not loose...it was rattling

Does everything look alright. The tank is in my living room wife will kill me if.... well you know.

everything looks good.. what i usually do is use only thumb and middle finger to tighten those thumb screws that holds the filter cover.. the part i put Teflon is between 7269350 Sealing ring (2) and 7443670 Pump cover... i wrap 2 layers of Teflon tape to make the Sealing ring pop out.. here is eheims link.. take a look at what i'm talking about..

Soupa i put the tape on the end of the elbow that connects to the pump.

The flow is so stong that im thinking of moving the intake on the same side as the spray bar.

Right now its pushing the water from the left side of the tank all the way to the right side, down to the substrate level and back across to the left side (where the spray bar is. Poop is kind of gathering righr inder the spray bar.

Would doing this result in having to service the filter more frequently (i guess it would) but are there any other down sides ?
