Ok so from top to bot...
- Used a demo saw to cut a trench in my driveway, it slopes towords the fish room meaning water would pile up in front of the door, so far its working great and I had a ball using the demo saw! the guy gave me a 1min demo then I was outside in sandles going nuts! (not safe... dont try at home!)
After got the foil wrapping finished, sealed the lines with foil tape.
- I had to get the roof on asap as the weather is crap down here no matter what season we are in, I installed 120mm thick EPS at VH grade, + a space blanket ( reduces sounds on tin roofs + other benefits ), after simple colorbond sheeting + my box gutter ( did my head in... dam gutters lol). So far it has worked great I will be changing my main rooms roof to the exact same as this one, the insulation is amazing + installing it from the top allowed me to get it air tight! walking on roof beams spaced 900 apart was not fun but..
- Next was the walls, I used 85mm EPS at H grade. Then came the sliding door which looks nice but sliding it is a pest! I couldnt try it out long story, still happy with it for what I paid!
- After I removed the insulation from main room to new room! WOW it was amazing seeing my vision come to life the space!!!
- I cut the trench in the driveway about 9mm too small, sadly with cement theres no tolerance lol not thinking about using the grinder ( was in my mode ) I grab every hammer I had and smacked the cement out about an hour and a half later I had the gutter going in but being 3m long there where other points a few mm out so I gave up, finished it later with a grinder its installed now and works great!
Pictures a bit muddled up sorry!
- Next I decided to move my RTC, She has GROWN!!! around 72cm 1 year and 3 months we averaged it at on the date of the move started at 2 inch!, She is now in a 8.5 x 3 x 2.5 and loving it, I also put some other fish in as testers... then my mates did the same anyways she refuses to eat fish it seems?? we started with a vieja hybrid no issues then a 5inch red devil and no issues to this date (2-3 months maybe more I have been so lost in time) My umbee is also in there now, chases the other fish but leaves the rtc alone so all is good!
- I couldnt get a plaster trolley due to not being able to drive yet... too busy with fish to start my learners at 16
! so I used my aquarium trolley I figured it can take my 8x4x3 so heck a plaster sheet is nothing! I used normal mgp and actually worked out better as you can see from the plaster my new room has quite a large slope, building the plaster trolley to the roof meant when I jacked it up I could get it dead flush to the ceiling lvls, then with a collated screw gun I made quick work of it alone. Lifting 3m long sheet was not the best due to the tight corners but I managed without doing too much damage!
Anyways the room is finished now and moved my 8x4x3 into the ext on monday! was lucky my friend came around as was struggling alone you cant really man handle such a large tank even with a trolley its hard lol. I will try to take some pictures tonight or tomorrow after work and update.
Hope this explains some of it, if anyone is a tad lost what the heck was going on. it was a great learning process I have sense decided to go to tafe for a carpenter course takes up my friday night and sats but is great! one day I can build a larger fish room hopefully
.
Ooo... also got the pearsi to breed FINALLY! I havent had time to set up a fry tank but the pair is breeding almost weekly! and I purchased a 6x3x3 + a 75cm mangrove jack (came with the tank) I have never seen a jack so big... all my other fish seem small now he almost dragged me into the tank when netting him...8x4x3 is also maintaining 22-26c in the ext still using the same 700W heat pump the 8fter that sits under it did drop to 17C so I added a heater, hopefully moving up to a 1kw unit will fix this but so far the 700w is working well enough for the time.
