Amazing tank!

Listen to my suggestion and you will have a balanced tank as far as color and behaviour go for a long time.

:headbang210 Yellow labs peaceful fish- find a good, clean strain from a good source.

:headbang210 Aceis yellow tail ( purple)- Will swim in schools in that tank all the time. Peaceful fish.

:headbang210 Metriaclima Calainos (light blue) for that mbuna look that you want.

:headbang210 Copadichromis Borley croc. rocks ( 3 males - 7 females) males are Bright RED when mature. They will have space to school in your tank . Peaceful fish in a big tank like that will look great.

:headbang215 Placidochromis Phenochilus Tanzania- The most peaceful african cichlid IMO. Males are Blue with white spots(awesome). Go with 5 big males or more and 10 females.

:headbang205 Exochromis Anagenys Yellow (Predatorial Hap. but not overly agressive like most others like venustus, etc..) I would go with 1 male and 4 females. Males turn purple and females are yellow/gold and gorgeus. They will also control the mbuna(no hybridization) and the other hap s population pretty well.

You should have a balanced 1000 gallon with all the 60 fish above.

You will also need big rocks IMO since small rocks wont do anything for that monster of a tank.

As far as diet goes feed a quality flake mix of spirulina and regular ones and you will enjoy the setup for a long time.

Tangs would be the best way to go if you don't want interbreeding. If you pick the right species you should be alright. For such a large tank try a school of benthochromis tricoti. Kinda expensive, but not to bad. The list could go on for rock dwellers and sand sifters, but the tricoti would make a good show fish. Here is a few interesting ones to check out.
-Gnathochromis perimaxillaris
-Benthochromis tricoti
-Cyprichromis jumbo "kitumba"
-Triglachromis otostigma
-Alto. calvus "white"
Then there are a ton of other types julidochromis, xenotilapia, eretmodus, neolamprologus, etc.
Good luck with your decision.

Hey Blaker,

This tank is going to be awesome whatever you do. I like your list:

Pseudotropheus demasoni
Labidochromis caeruleus (yellow lab)
Labeotropheus trewavasae
Melanochromis cyaneorhabdos
Metriaclima callainos
Pseudotropheus acei - yellow tail

and your idea to to get some red color in there and some bottom fish. Here are a couple suggestions:

for red:
Metriaclima Red Zebras (get a mix of both the OB and straight red/orange morphs)
Aulonocara males (you could get Eureka Reds or there are several natural strains with hints of red also)

for bottom fish:
Syno. multipunctatus or petricola are so active and fun, the office will love them, especially in a colony.
Clown Loaches are also very colorful and fun as many others have mentioned.
Lastly, if you are willing to go with sand substrate, fossorochromis rostratus and cyrtocara moorii are very active and get big but aren't really piscivores so they'd do well in your community.

Good luck!

I Say Tanganyikan Setup! Frontosa. Cyprichromis. Brichardi. Synodontis. Shell Dwellers. a couple of tanganyikan eels. Calvus. and Gold Heads. and some nice rock work.

Very nice tank with endless possabilities You could Do Mbuna Haps and Peacocks in a tank that large I have a 125 with a 2/M 3/F group of Cyno. Afra Cobue that spawn regularly. they are in their with mostly male Haps and Peacocks Benga, Ruby red, OB, Fire fish, Venustus, Livinstoni, Hap Fryeri(electric blue), V C10, Theirs a group of lethrinops, I missed a couple.

With the size of your tank you will have a nice slice of the lake I have another 125 with three species of Mbuna and 5 clown loaches Msobo Deep, Polit, Mbweca, Yellow Lab, Yellow tailed Acie.

The yellow labs and acie are almost like dithers since they don't claim a territory they just cruise the tank and get in the way of any fights that arise They are a dime a dozen though and you see them everywhere If I had your tank I would go for the Malawi's that aren't that common but hell you could fit lots of fish in their I keep between 30 to 40 in a 125 so do the math.

Sorry thinking out loud Good luck and post some pic's

How about species like:
Copadichromis Borley
Copadichromis Chrysonotus
Copadichromis Jacksoni
Sciaenochromis Ahli
Nimbochromis Fuscotaeniatus
Nimbochromis Livingstonii
Nimbochromis Venustus
Dimidiochromis Compressiceps
Nyassachromis Boadzulu
Fossochromis Rostratus
Placidochromis Milomo

Haplochromis have great colour grow to sizes of 8-10" and do not interbreed.

Good luck with your tank, looks really nice already.
