my 24 gallon tank. first saltwater tank. i ended up pickin this thing up at my local flea market in NY. came with a penguin 170 biowheel, hood, lighting system and an air pump. not bad for 30 bux right? neway. heres a couple pics of my tank. i ended up ripping the old lighting sytem outa the hood and ordering LED lighting online. ive got a picture of tht too. since i set it up on sunday, i bought live rock (12 pounds uncured, 2.5 live) and 2 green/blue chromis on monday, cleaner shrimp on tuesday, and bought 2 pecrula clowns today. i also bought calcium suplement to help the coraline grow. im goin to post a new picture up every couple days to show the advancement of the tank. im on a 9 day work scheduele so ill start with today and post agian on the 30th. lemme know what you all think.

I like it. Is this going to be a reef? I think you should get another 15lbs of live rock for the tank. Look around in your area for used live rock, rock that has already been in others set-ups. Around here used live rock goes for $4-5lbs, cheaper than the stores which charge $9lbs.

That is a different shaped tank, but I like it. Nice pick up.

mine charges $7lbs because thts the only lfs i go to. tht and its my 3rd tank setup ive bought supplies through. if i do buy more im gonna wait a little bit to sell off my 29 gallon seyup and then move the stand its on under the 24 gallon tank. my other table ive got it on now is starting to warp slightly from the weight. kinda sux.

it seems like your rushing. take a deep breath and calm down. is the tank fully cycled yet?

i felt tht way too, but the way things are goin idk. i put some stuff in when i set it up i think its called "nutrafin cycle" or sumthing like tht. it lets me introduce fish immediatly. i waited a day then threw some chromis in to see how it was and theyre still alive. shrimp the next day and clowns today. evrything seems to be going smoothly.

I'm not sure Nutrafin cycle works for salt... if it does then ok, but if not your in for a crash. Are you testing for ammonia/nitrites? It's all well and good that they look fine, but these things build up slowly and will kill your fish. Get a test kit out and check daily, if the numbers aren't 0 do a water change, if they don't start to go down even with water changes (like next day or so) get the fish out and let the tank cycle properly.

Not a good idea at all.. You're seriously rushing it. Your live rock doesn't look live at all nor does it look porous enough to be all that great either.. Was your sand atleast live? You really do need to take it slower

Limestone/lace rock/holey rock is ok for saltwater even though it wouldn't be my first choice because there are rocks with better porosity available.

Biospira is a great choice for adding cultured bacteria to a new tank to try and kick start the cycle, but it is subject to all the same crap that others are subject to. Shipping and storage temperatures play a big role in its success, along with age.

So all bacterial additives are a hit or miss type thing.
