240 GALLON....BARE BOTTOM OR GRAVEL?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I've read a few posts recently where people were talking about using tile. I'm thinking about doing this for my next tank because its really the best of both worlds....easy to maintain and aesthetically pleasing.

I've never had a BB tank because I thought that a substrate acts as an environment for nitrogen fixing bacteria. Correct me if I'm wrong
You have filter. That's the other alternative for bacteria colony.

go TILE

I say go tile too, all depends on your style. You can go half and half, i seen some tanks usually the monstah ones with bare bottom and in one corner a pile of gravel and a piece of driftwood or couple bunches of plants... post some pics of your tank! Are you on oahu?

my vote is for sand. having ran tile, BB, gravel and sand before, i love sand now. looks great and as mentioned the waste just stays on top of the sand. i will definitely NEVER run gravel again. such a damn mess

Probably not going to do tile, but sand sounds cool. What color sand do you guys use? brown, white? Ive never seen dark sand sold in stores but can get plenty white sand. The pics i have right now are of the plywood tank only, not sealed or glass installed, but ill just put those up. Also Bosa I am on oahu.

I was just wondering what you going stock your tank with, I get one 15" clown knife that i want to get rid of.

Im stocking it with an oscar, jag, aro, a couple pbass, and was actually thinking of getting a clownknife. There will also be a pacu in there for a while. After the tank is done im going to extend my pond for the pacu. What does your clownknife eat?

Oh i get one Oscar too if you like? The Oscar eats anything, the clown knife eats feeders, I tried feeding it pellets, but the oscar eats it before the CK. The pics is in my profile, let me know if you like um. I was trying to sell them but taking too long, people flake out.
