250 gallon CA/SA stocking ideas

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
If you want glass banging personality fish, go with a pair or at most very lightly stocked, if you want a community tank do your research and get more suitable spp.

I like well stocked African Tanks, but CA/SA tanks, I like under stocked, the fish tend to act more natural I would think.

My GT and Texas never got along, even as 3" fry, FWIW

Just thinking if the half feet tall can be a deterrent or a block for keeping cichlids which can grow broad like festae / middevils.
My guess this could be nice for Jack Dempsey, EBJD , Jaguar.
Was there any space constraints for you to design a half feet tall aquarium?
two and a half feet tall also I meant to say 250 gallons

Is there any chance that u might have misread ur dimensions? Half a feet tall means 6 inches which is way too small height for a 250G tank. Almost all cichlids will jump out without proper top cover
TWO and a half feet lol

He said "two and a half feet tall". Y'all done goofed.
(Although a half food tall 250g would've made a sick tank for tetras, corys, or dwarf cichlids)

The jag and festaes will be problems when they get big.

I think a combo of Green Terror, Jack Dempsey, and Green Texas would be awesome. Fish in green gotta stick together
Your the first one to figure that out! :)

I am confused by the dimensions of the tank. You say it is two feet wide and 2.5 feet tall? What is the length of the tank?

In any case If your goal is to have a community of fishes, and "overstock" like you say, I would probably skip the jaguar, a male jag might take the whole tank to himself. Getting a community of these fish to work is a balancing act, cant tell you exactly what will and wont work, it's trial and error until you get a mix that works. I would keep the 90 gallon full and ready to take fish out of the big tank as needed.
its actually 2 feet wide for around 8 feet of the tank and the other four feet is 16 inches, I will put tons of cover for the spot that is 16 inches wide so the smaller fish can escape the monsters

Replying, now with a clear picture on dimensions, only I can fathom being inside are the JD’s (3-4 , with lots of hiding places) ..... slow growers , less aggressive in comparison to the list in OP and fish can last in there at least a couple of years before you upgrade to a bigger tank.
Keep in mind I want a variety, also 4 JD's wouldn't even be close to fill this tank up

I think that is a good idea, but I do wanna have some real big guys in there, Im talking 16-18 inches

OK, well lets say I don't wanna overstock it, you guys were saying its better not to be, its a big 250 and I want some real big cichlids, Jags, festae's ,Texas and so on. or should I get 2 JD's, 2 GT's, 2 Jags, 2 festae's and 2 Texas when they are all around 4 inches raise them all together pick out the bully's and weaklings
