I went in yesterday to have a procedure done on my shoulder. They ended up doing both shoulders. By boyfriend drove me home we ate lunch around noon and I crawled into bed and crashed. I'm not sure what time my boyfriend came back, but when I woke up at 9:30pm he informed me that he had found my bichir lying on the floor when he arrived. He picked her up and put her back in the tank. She is still alive though she looks very stressed. The water had been changed 50% on Wednesday in preparation for me not being able to use my arms. Now the water is white and stinky. I am currently not able to reach the top of the tank. I had prime and melafix added to the tank last night as precautionary measure. All the fish in the tank are alive but stressing. I have someone going to come do a water change for me this evening. I am pretty sure I have covered all the bases but I am still really groggy so I feel the need to ask if I have covered all my bases, if for nothing more than reassurances.

why didnt your boyfriend do a water change for you?
When i had surgery for my hand i got a pump for my water changes.
FIll a tub or 2 with new water...drain tank to desired level.
Pump in new water...no heavy lifting needed.
Id calll a friend or a friends kids to come help asap.
Good luck...thats a HUGE ornate.

It didn't need a water change when he was here Thursday evening. I have a pump that I normally use for water changes, but given my present condition I am unable to physically reach the top of the tank. That said... I figured out that there was a problem with the filter.... and as much as I hate to admit this... it was human error. When I did the water change Wednesday I forgot to open one of the intake valves. Filtration fixed... water change coming soon.

The first two images are current. The third image is what my water quality normally looks like. (The first two are clouded.) And before anyone starts in on me about how close my hand is to the top of the tank please note that I bent my arm at the elbow as I currently can't lift my arms at the shoulders.

That's the last thing you gotta worry about people saying. First is how small the tank is for those monsters! You should add an airpump to get rid of the bubbles in the second pic

A'yup. That is likely where this is going.

But not to be negative--that is one awesome huge poly, and that's why it deserves more space.
