2600 gallon 'pool' pond

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Sorry to hear about your trouble. What I did with my intex pool liner is used it like a regular pond liner....dug a hole and put it in the ground. It worked good.

Yea, I really DO NOT want it in the ground. I debated over half in the ground/ half above but decided against this too. I finally got it filled up but it still is slightly egg shaped. I'm thinking just to leave like this. Oddly enough now the high spot in the pool is the low spot on the ground. The sides suffered the most.

I do have a dream fountain type pond made of bricks/ or stone. I estimate to be just under 1,000 gallon. It would be U-shaped(or a square u shape)

New Updates: My Rosey Reds have spawned.

I mentioned this in the cold water section(a month ago) but I only saw 2 babies at any time for about 2 weeks before I left on Vacation. I came back 2 days ago and to my surprise there has too be 30+ swimming around. It's hard to get a good idea as the water is green which means I'm sure I'm not seeing all the babies at once.

Short term it looks cool, long term I'm a little worried they may over take the pool.

Wife seems to have finally agreed on a UV which would help see them better

Too bad:

I ordered a UV filter/pump and it arrived yesterday. I went outside an hour later to feed my fish and found the pond was clearing up on it's own(after 4 months). I can see the bottom in most areas.

Spent $200 on the UV pump. I will of course keep it and still use it for any future outbreaks. I just feel like choking myself.

Maybe you can get away with some catfish.....random I know

I went ahead and put some plecos in there today.

The heavy rain yesterday (effects from Alex) made it a little worse but I can still see the bottom in some areas.

Finally some pics...still bad shots but the fish are better then in the past.

First shot was of the pool about 2 weeks ago(still very green)

In the first pic of the fish the goldfish in the middle is about 7inches. Looking up in the 1 o'clock position is the 10 inch Koi which not at the surface which is why he looks smaller.

Also seen are the baby roseys(lots). I put alot of food in there but it will all be gone in under 5 minutes

More Updates:

The pond has been getting cloudy again so I hooked up the UV.... which has been a fight in itself. The thing is lightweight under water and kind of wants to float. So I added a rock on top of it which helped but not enough as the filter still fails off the flowerpot.

So, I went and got a plastic crate(it's too big) and now the filter keeps falling in.

I saw one of the plecos around the filter...boy has it grown in a short time.

Bad news: It appears the sun is burning the plastic ring around the pool pond. If it continues it could pop a hole in it. My plan is to put cloth over the burn spots(ugly but if it stops the burning).

yeah I had that problem with my 8' one when I had it running, I'm thinking that another liner in it would have fixed that plus the leak that developed.

if yours continues to get worse I'd recomend adding a liner to it as well.
