265 Mixed African Tank

Adamson Adamson Apparently you haven't visited Texas. The clear waters of Lake Travis abound with Texas Holey Rock. I don't particularly like bone white rock. IMO, The algae which grows on my THR enhances the look.
I hand selected each stone from various local rockyards. No jagged pieces, or nothing too abrasive.
Everyone is enritled to their own opinion. Here's a pic of my THR hardscape. I'm okay with it.

Personally I would recommend you two either table this or take it to PMs. Nothing constructive and hijacking someone’s thread.

Yes me point is that the person you quoted A201 A201 is also very knowledgeable in African cichlids. My "shot" at you isn't personal. It's in reply to your direct post. Could be anyone spouting that nonsense....just happened to be you.
Edit: Taken to PM.

Just out of curiosity how big is your tank? I’m trying to do a community tank I have a 150 gallon aquarium and was wondering what is the perfect amount of fish to throw in there ?
Size of the tank was discussed on pg 2 and 3 there was some discrepancy. Looks like final measurements puts it at 225g.

What's the foot print of your 150?

I was kind of hoping the OP could return and discuss his nitrate levels. If his setup is indeed producing minimal nitrates without the massive water changes I would like to explore.
Yes if there's something this effective it could greatly change the way some of us keep large tanks. I have yet to try a DSB barrel set up and I may be missing out if it can truly do that much nitrate reduction.

Me too. Like I said I've tried the dsb in fresh water it didn't do anything discernable. In saltwater I had great luck with it.

IMO, Nitrate management in a setup like the OP's would be a formidable task. The massive daily accumulation of waste would be staggering.

I would love to get away from 75% water changes every 3-5 days.
I have never measured my substrate but it is fairly deep Adding another inch or two would be easy and I would be willing to do if this would work. However mine is also not sand but rather a very small shell and gravel mix.
