Just out of curiosity how big is your tank? I’m trying to do a community tank I have a 150 gallon aquarium and was wondering what is the perfect amount of fish to throw in there ?
I’d stock a 150 with 100 fish over time. Get a pair of large canisters and feed aggressively and you’ll be fine. Remember overstocking reduces aggression.

I would love to get away from 75% water changes every 3-5 days.
I have never measured my substrate but it is fairly deep Adding another inch or two would be easy and I would be willing to do if this would work. However mine is also not sand but rather a very small shell and gravel mix.
Sand prevents gaps where oxygen can get to creating that low oxygen environment anaerobic bacteria need to multiply. Your shell and gravel substrate allows increased water flow where oxygen has the opportunity to sit. You likely have tons of aerobic bacteria thus increased capacity to handle ammonia and overall bio load but also an increase in nitrate production. The key is finding a balance between the two kinds of bacteria. Think sw where we have invertebrates digging into deep sand beds turning it over slowly and over long periods of time we can get the same results in a cichlid tank without these extra critters.

I have 3D backgrounds in all my tanks. When fish get behind I just net them. The catfish like to slither over the top.

I didn’t know tempered glass could be drilled. Any idea how that was done? Great looking tank btw.

The glass is drilled before it is tempered.

Loving this thread so far. I have been worry about having 25 Haps in my 125 and the future 300. After reading this threat, I feel I shouldn't have any issue with that amount of fish in a 72" 300 and maybe should consider getting more.
