269g plywood tank?

I assume you mean the PermaDri Liquid Rubber that Joey used? That's what I'd like to use, if its cheap enough.

I looked in to the permidri rubber before they said that I would need 6 gals to cover 100sqft at 60 mils thick.. that is just way to expensive.

Why the hell do you need it 60 mils thick?? If a pond liner, which is exposed to rocks, driftwood, yearly freezing/thawing, and uv sun rays, only needs to be between 20 and 45 mils thick, I think 60 mils is serious overkill.

I was planning on having something around 20-40 mils thick, as that should be more than adequate for waterproofing.

The PermaFlex I've been talking about (from Sani-Tred), is waterproof and good to go at only 14 mils thick.

they didnt say it needed to be that thick just a reference to say how much it covers but the permaflex is cheeper all in all.

I see.

I'm not sure what I'm going to use yet, but I'm starting to think about making the tank 6'x4'x2' instead of 6'x3'x2'. I can still get all the pieces out of 3 sheets of plywood, and the glass panel can be the same size as well, so the only real cost increase there would be more of whatever rubber coating I get, and since it looks like I'm going to have to buy more than I need anyways, It looks like I could get another 90 gallons without paying any more than I already am.

Does that sound crazy to anyone?? :nilly:

I'm starting to rethink my sump design as well. I like the idea of a sump sitting above the tank, but I'm running into problems with figuring out how I'll get this monster in/out of my house, since I only have regular 32" doors (the 6' french doors will not be where this tank is located anymore).

I'm now thinking of making the tank either:

6'x4'x2' = 359g

or

8'x4'x2' = 479g

The problem is that with an 18" tall sump-wet/dry on top of the tank, that makes it 42" tall, which is way too big to fit through a doorway. I may build the stand to be 30" tall, and then just custom build a plywood sump into the stand.

Does this sound better?

Also, for tanks that large, will a standard 2x4 stand be strong enough, or should it be made with 2x6's instead?

I suppose I could build the stand as tall as I want, and just build it in two 24" front-to-back pieces, and bolt it together... That would make it a lot easier to get out of the house.

Looks like I have a tentative ok from my girlfriend for a monster tank, AS LONG as I get rid of almost every other tank in the house (currently have 125, 125, 55, 29, 20L, 20T). She might let me keep the 20T for feeders, and a 125 because she likes the SA/CA community in it :D:D:D.

So I'm thinking I want to go 8'x4'x2'. This gives me max size without increasing costs significantly over the 6'x4'x2', besides in building the stand and the pane of glass. I'm hoping that selling off some of my other tanks and some fish will help offset most of the cost though.

The sump is now going to be planned for an under-tank, in-stand sump, rather than on top of the tank.

I'm going to make up some drawings and try to post them in the next couple of days, and I'll start pricing more materials (like larger glass, and wood for the stand).
