If you shopped around you could get a fluorescent or halogen shoplight for $20 that would give you all the light you needed. There are probably other places you could save quite a bit of money. For example, if the rubber you are using is cheaper in bulk, try finding another hobbyist or maybe a small-time pool contractor who will split the cost with you, or who has some excess they would sell you for cheap.

Well I'll have 2, 4 foot twin tube fluorescent lights, and I figured I'd pick up two more. Those would only be about $40-50 total for the additional two, and that would provide as much light as I could want.
The reason I want 4 lights, is so that I can set the lighting up a certain way. I want the lighting spread out evenly, but want to position it so that it lights both the front of the fish (for viewing) and the back of the fish, for more natural lighting.
I hadn't thought about the pool builder thing. Whatever I order, i'll either save what's left (I know I'll find a use for it), or maybe sell it to someone local. I just can't decide what I want to use.

Also, what do you guys think about and in-tank sump design? Where you build a box at one end of the tank, the water overflows into it onto foam pads, travels down through biomedia, and then a pump at the bottom pumps it back to the other end of the tank? Would this type of filter be efficient enough on this type of tank?
