Well I set this tank up in December primarily to house a common goldfish that my sister won at the fair last summer. She kept it in a 5 gallon tank for about 3 months and rarely changed the water so I think it's probably a little stunted. He's fairly healthy looking and active now but is only about 4 inches long. Right now the tank has 2 anubias plants and 1 amazon sword, I'd like to add some more plants and maybe set up a do-it-yourself co2 system in the near future. I added a rubber lip pleco in February to try to get rid of some brown algae that's been growing all over my tank but he hasn't really done much. I think he just eats enough to stay alive and sit there haha, but he's a pretty cool fish. On Friday i went to my lfs and saw they were selling white cloud mountain minnow fry for 10 cents as feeders, I've always wanted a couple for my tank so I bought 6. The guy actually ended up giving me 11 haha. I'm keeping them in a breeding net until they're big enough not to get eaten by the goldfish or sucked up by the filter. I also bought 5 nerite snails as another attempt to find something to get rid of the algae. The tank sits at about 70 degrees and I haven't tested any parameters recently. I do about a 20% water change every 2 weeks with dechlorinated tap water. Sorry the pics aren't the best I took them with my iphone 4s and the lights make it look kinda weird.

Nice. I would test your water more though. Also i would increase your water changes to once a week at 25-50%. Goldfish are messy fish. Sorry not trying to sound like a pain just my opinion. Everything looks great though good job :)

Hey thanks! Ya the more I read on here the more I think I should go get a descent test kit. And I'll try to start doing weekly water changes

Thanks for the kind words! Here's an updated pic I added a couple gold ribbon plants I got for pretty cheap. Anybody have any experience with these? I've read they do best emersed, and melt underwater.

I hope I don't get picked on for saying this... but umm somebody should tell you that common goldfish do grow big. Ussually 12inches or more depending on how they're cared for. But the minimum I'd keep them in is a tank atleast 18inch wide. x 40inch long and 20inch tall is fine. Though that's just my opinion. And do know and realize that goldfish are social fish. They're not schooling persay but they love and need atleast two other goldfish. Do not mix fancy goldfish with commons. Avoid koi at all cost unless you plan a large 300+ tank.

I'm aware, but like I said earlier in the thread, the fish was stunted before it was in my care. When/if it outgrows this tank it will go to some family members who own a pond. I've never heard that goldfish "need" companions, like you said they aren't schooling fish. He's been happy and healthy living alone.

Man theres ALWAYS one guy who has to ruin it, dont worry a single goldfish thats already stunted is fine in ur tank and the rubber lip pleco hardly gets an inch, imo your fine just do what the other helpful comments suggested w/ changing water, cool tank.

And watch out for the haters here, if u had a 120 gal ud still get criticized!

Goodluck man.

Also id recommend some ghost or cherry shrimp, there cheap and awesome and stay small.

That's what's forum's are for! Also I'm quite sure you don't know how big an inch is...... because you usually get them at 2-3" and they can grow 4-5" it is a gorgeous tank might I add. It looks great but since everyone else is giving advice or criticism depending on how you take it id turn the temperature up since rubber lips are south American and live In tropical waters and gold fish are cold. They really shouldn't be mixed but gold ffish can tolerate much warmer temps :) again no hate I like the setup just my advice take it or leave it up too you.
