would a red belly pacu work ?

Short answer, not for life.



The small white fish is my albino rb pacu released into a big pond with some adults next to it. Mine was 16-18” to give context of how big they get, even in captivity. It’s hard to see because of glare but the nose of the adult right next to him isn’t even in the picture.

Not to mention they are extremely active and need all sorts of room to swim in or they start to become extremely anxious and mean.great fish but need so much room.

There are both in there. People will also tell you that they only grow as big as their tank. Lol. Red belly pacu do turn black once they are big enough, you can tell the difference from how the adipose fin moves on a black vs. A Rb. Not going to dispute which one this is from a blurry top pic lol.

Either way if it is 25” and your tank is maybe 30-32” front to back that doesn’t give much room. And it only takes about 6 months for it to get to 16”. They are eating machines.

You will decide what you are going to do, we are just giving suggestions and hope you make a good decision. You seem to care enough to ask which seems to mean you are caring enough to do some research before hand. (Not like what I did) so GL

It’s all dependant on sizes of the fish, and individual temperament. I have one that attacks fish 3x it’s own size and another that is scared of its own shadow.
